All
bikes are ex PLA, short for Peoples Liberation Army, and are still
being manufactured in China! The CJ750 began production in 1955
and was chosen by the army for its ability to handle rough terrain,
long distance touring capabilities and ease of operation. However,
the robust and utilitarian design is what made it a champion amongst
military motorcycles.
Military
models only? Far from it! Customising a CJ750 according
to your unique concept is all part of the fun. See
an example of custom paintwork here. We also have three
set models, as per the classifications listed below...

The
CJ750 Legend...
Dubbed
the "Chang Jiang" after the name for the Yangtze River, they
are thought to have their origins near a brick factory in
Nanchang.
Reportedly,
the CJ750 featured in a famous stunt scene in the classic
film The Great Escape - starring Steve McQueen. The scene
where Mcqueen attempts a jump over a barbed wire fence was
an iconic moment for CJ750 fans, not because he was riding
one, but because the Nazi soldiers chasing him were riding
the real deal.
The
famous Shanghai Red Devils Motorcycle Club, the first motorcycle
club in Shanghai, are also ardent advocates of the CJ750.

A Reverse
Engineered Version of the BMW R71...
The
Chang Jiang CJ750's design is based on the BMW R71 from 1938.
The Russians reverse engineered BMW R71's using tooling and
the designs captured during WW2 creating the M72 version.
It was almost identical to the original BMW R71 in every aspect.
The
BMW R71 / M72 sidecar was then duplicated by the Chinese Nanchang
Aircraft Factory and renamed as the Chang Jiang CJ750, becoming
the standard military motorcycle for the Peoples Liberation
Army.
Military
Quality...
Cape
Sidecar Sales only provide genuine Peoples Liberation
Army rebuilds. Our carefully selected range, manufactured
during the mid 50's, 60's and early 70's, complies with the
rigid military specifications demanded by troops in the field.
